Biodegradable Plastic Highlights: Green Film™

Green Film Highlights

A Comparison Between PLA and Maverick Green Film

  1. Maverick Green Film™ degrades in a landfill; PLA (biobased films) do not. PLA will degrade only in commercial or municipal composts due to their need of a high temperature, moisture, and aeration found at these sites. There are only 60 certified commercial composts in the US, mainly in California and New York that accept biodegradable/compostable plastic. So the rest of the PLA product ends up in a landfill where it will remain just like regular plastics.

  2. Plastic takes 400 or more years to degrade; Green Film™ takes 10-20 years.

  3. Green Film can be recycled with mainstream plastic and has testing to prove this

  4. Maverick Green Film™ has no problems with exposure to moisture or high temperatures. PLA does have problems. PLA will degrade while still in use before being thrown away if it gets wet for an extended period of time or is too hot (over 140 degrees F.)

  5. Maverick Green Film™ has no expiration dates; PLA does.

  6. Maverick Green Film™ leaves no bad chemicals in the soil after degrading. Oxy degradables do leave harmful chemicals behind- cobalt, for example.

  7. The claim that corn based films use LESS fossil fuels than polyethylene is a LIE; they use MORE. (See reference article "How Green are Green Plastics".)
